Procedure
Alarplasty is a plastic surgery procedure in which a wedge of the wing of the nose is removed in order to alter the shape of the nostrils. Alarplasty may be used to increase or decrease the width of the nostrils, for either cosmetic or functional reasons.
Nasal Tip Rhinoplasty refers to the shape and size of the bottom third of the nose, known as the nasal tip. A more conservative nasal tip rhinoplasty approach can permit correction only of the region of the nose that is a perceived concern.
Preoperative
Before Surgery
In preparation for the surgery, you are going to be required to:
Stop smoking and drinking alcohol.
Stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, hormonal pills, and herbal supplements since they can increase bleeding at least 1-2 weeks.
Stop drinking water at least 6-8 hours before the procedure.
People with diseases need surgical clearance from their medical specialist.
Recovery
The patient may go back to work after one week. Activities that are more strenuous may be resumed after two to three weeks. The patient should avoid any activity that could impact on the nose or allow it to become sunburned for at least eight weeks. The use of a sunblock that provides both UVA and UVB protection is useful. The final results may take one year and sometimes longer to achieve.
